Will Ospreay Puts Over Mark Davis as Future World Champion Material After Owen Hart Cup Win

Will Ospreay is already thinking big when it comes to Mark Davis’s future in AEW — and he’s not shy about saying so.

Appearing on 107.7 The Bone with Baby Huey, Ospreay was asked about his favorite in-ring dance partners and used the opportunity to heap praise on Davis, saying the big Australian could be “an amazing world champion if given the tools and necessary story to get there.” It’s a notable endorsement from one of the most respected in-ring performers in the world today.

The timing adds some weight to the comments. Earlier in June, Ospreay defeated Davis in the Owen Hart Cup tournament, meaning the two men have already shared the ring in a meaningful competitive setting. Despite the loss, Ospreay clearly came away from that experience with a high opinion of what Davis brings to the table.

Davis is currently part of The Don Callis Family on AEW television, a faction that has kept him busy but largely in a supporting capacity. Ospreay’s comments raise a fair question: is Davis being used to his full potential? Having a performer of Ospreay’s caliber publicly champion Davis as world title material could at least put the conversation front and center.

For Davis, the road to a world title push would require exactly what Ospreay outlined — a strong singles story and the right platform to showcase what he can do. Whether AEW moves in that direction remains to be seen, but with Ospreay making the case, the idea is harder to dismiss.
