Ospreay Retains at All Out, Set to Defend vs. Okada in Paris

Will Ospreay survived his first AEW World Championship defense at All Out, fending off Jon Moxley in Chicago with a Hidden Blade to keep his title. But the celebration didn’t last long — in the post-show media scrum, Ospreay wasted no time calling out Kazuchika Okada, and the challenge has already been made official. Ospreay defends against Okada at Grand Slam France on October 6 in Paris.

It’s a rematch loaded with history. Okada and Ospreay have crossed paths many times over the years, and the ledger currently favors the Rainmaker, who most recently beat his former protégé in the Continental Classic final at Worlds End 2024. Okada also arrives as reigning AEW International Champion, meaning a win in Paris would make him a double champion and set up one of the biggest title pictures AEW has had in some time.

Ospreay made clear during the scrum that Okada isn’t the only unfinished business on his list. He specifically named Darby Allin as a future target, referencing their lone singles meeting from the December 18, 2024 Dynamite, a Continental Classic Gold League bout that Allin won. With Allin currently holding the TNT Championship and chasing his way back to AEW’s top prize, that’s a showdown with obvious stakes if Ospreay gets through Okada first.

There are other names circling the picture, too. Andrade El Idolo won the Casino Gauntlet match at All In London earlier that night, banking a future AEW World Title opportunity he has yet to cash in. Andrade and Ospreay share United Empire ties, which could add a layer of internal-faction tension if that match materializes down the line. And then there’s MJF, who lost the lineal AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega back on July 8 but has continued insisting he’s still the true champion. MJF and Ospreay split their two previous meetings over the International Championship in 2024, leaving an obvious rubber match on the table given MJF’s current standing near the top of the PWI 500 rankings.

For now, though, all eyes turn to Paris. Ospreay explicitly framed this run atop AEW as a chance to settle old scores, and Okada represents the most decorated name on that list. A win over Okada would be a defining moment in Ospreay’s championship reign and would also strip the International Championship away from one of AEW’s most dominant recent titleholders — a title unification wrinkle that could reshape the singles landscape heading into the fall.

Whether Ospreay comes out of Grand Slam France still holding the AEW World Championship, or Okada walks away as a double champion, the winner will have plenty more challengers lined up. Allin, Andrade and MJF are all positioned as viable next steps, and AEW appears to be building toward a stretch of world title defenses that ties together several of its ongoing storylines. October 6 in Paris now stands as the first major test of that plan.
