Roman Reigns Faces Two-Front War Ahead Of WarGames

Roman Reigns still calls himself the Head of the Table and carries the World Heavyweight Championship, but the ground beneath him looks shakier than it has in months. With WWE Money in the Bank set for October 10, Reigns is booked to defend the title against LA Knight, who has made no secret of framing this as the moment he’s been denied by backstage politics and by stars like Reigns himself. At the same time, The Bloodline’s numbers are being picked apart by The 946, the Royce Keys-led faction that has already knocked Jacob Fatu out of action via an attack from new addition Jaida Parker.

Reigns has held the World Heavyweight Championship since beating CM Punk for it at WrestleMania 42 back on April 19, and he’s defended it four times in that stretch — over Jacob Fatu at Backlash and at Clash in Italy in May, over Seth Rollins at SummerSlam on August 2, and over Penta on the September 14 episode of Raw. That’s not exactly a workhorse pace for a top title, and it’s fair to wonder whether the championship has gained prestige from being tied to Reigns or lost some shine from infrequent defenses. Damian Priest, speaking about his own run with the title after winning it at WrestleMania 40, said he wanted to be the kind of champion Seth Rollins was — “a workhorse. I want to defend the title. I want to take on everyone and anyone at any point.” If Knight walks out of Money in the Bank with the belt, there’s a real chance it starts moving at that pace again, while Reigns turns his attention elsewhere.

That “elsewhere” is very likely The 946, whose campaign against The Bloodline has escalated well past trash talk. Royce Keys promised to pick off Reigns’ crew “one by one,” and recent weeks have backed that up — Solo Sikoa was abducted and driven off to a remote location, and Fatu was taken out by a car before Jaida Parker’s involvement became clear. Even Fatu’s recent calls for The Bloodline to unite against the threat haven’t papered over the group’s internal tension. With Keys, Lucien Price, Bronco Nima and now Parker forming a faction that can add new members far more easily than the legacy-bound Bloodline can, Reigns is set to return to Raw on October 5 to find his group depleted, with Fatu sidelined and Sikoa still missing.

Zoom out, and all roads seem to be pointing toward Survivor Series: WarGames on November 28 in Houston, where Reigns has already been featured in event publicity regardless of what happens at Money in the Bank. A men’s WarGames match pitting The Bloodline and its allies against The 946 feels like the obvious destination, especially if Keys’ faction keeps adding bodies between now and then.

Put those threads together and you get a real possibility that WWE is building toward writing Reigns off television, at least for a stretch, through a brutal WarGames blowoff rather than a clean singles loss. Losing the title to Knight at Money in the Bank would strip away the championship element and let a WarGames defeat feel like the true final blow. Whether that’s the actual plan or not, the pieces — a hungry challenger, a rival faction closing in, and a marquee cage match already being teased — are lining up in a way WWE rarely leaves to coincidence.
