Matt Hardy Says His Real TNA Priority Is Making Stars, Not Chasing Titles

Matt Hardy has been in the wrestling business long enough to know exactly what he wants out of it — and at this stage of his career, championships aren’t the top priority. Speaking on his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran made clear that his primary mission alongside brother Jeff in TNA is to elevate the next generation of talent.

Hardy pointed to the Hardys’ current program with The Righteous as exhibit A of that philosophy. “Jeff and I, we have always been very giving, and we do want to make stars,” Hardy said. “Our point in this whole program with the Righteous is to make them into stars as much as we can.”

That generosity extends to championship gold. Hardy was direct about what he’d like to see come out of the rivalry: “We definitely want to see them as the tag champs.” It’s a telling statement from one-half of one of the most decorated tag teams in wrestling history — a team actively working to hand the torch rather than hold onto it.

Beyond the tag picture, Hardy teased that singles competition could be on the horizon for both brothers. He specifically floated a potential match between Jeff Hardy and Nic Nemeth, describing it as a significant attraction for an upcoming Philadelphia event. “We might even see a little sampling of that with Jeff versus Nic Nemeth, which is going to be interesting,” Hardy said.

Still, Hardy made clear the duo isn’t simply fading into the background. Staying relevant remains part of the equation — and he backed it up with a lighthearted challenge to every talent they work with. “Jeff and I, we say this to people all the time. We even joke with Nic Nemeth about it. Like, hey, we’re just still waiting on somebody to have a longer line than us at the meet and greet. That’s what we’re challenging each of you guys to do.”

It’s a candid look at how two legends are navigating the back nine of their careers — not chasing one last title run, but betting that their greatest contribution to TNA may be the stars they help create along the way.
