Report: WWE Discussing Revival of Sin Cara Character

WWE may be looking to bring back the Sin Cara character, according to new reports indicating internal discussions about reviving the masked persona as something of a legacy gimmick for the company. The idea reportedly floating around is that Sin Cara could become a role passed down between performers over time, similar to how certain lucha libre characters are handed off to new wrestlers to keep a legacy alive.

Sin Cara’s WWE history dates back to 2011, when Mistico signed with the company in a deal widely regarded as Paul Levesque’s first major outside signing. He debuted directly on the main roster after WrestleMania 27, though the run became notorious for its struggles. After Mistico ran afoul of the wellness policy, Hunico took over as a second version of the character, Sin Cara Negro, eventually unmasking the original in a mask vs. mask match and wrestling unmasked for roughly two years — including a tag run with Camacho, who later became Tonga Loa. When Mistico was released, Hunico reclaimed the Sin Cara name and brought it to NXT as part of the Lucha Dragons alongside Kalisto. That version of Sin Cara was released in December 2019, effectively shelving the character for good — until now, apparently.

The timing lines up with WWE’s growing footprint in lucha libre. The company purchased AAA in April 2025 and has kept it running as a separate promotion while increasingly cross-promoting with main roster talent. Reviving Sin Cara as an ongoing, recastable character would fit neatly into that strategy, giving WWE its own version of the legacy-gimmick tradition lucha libre has long embraced with characters like La Parka.

As for who might step into the mask, Myzteziz Jr. has been floated as a candidate — he’s made only sporadic AAA appearances since the WWE acquisition, which could make him available for a bigger role. Another name generating buzz is Dralistico, whose AEW contract is reportedly nearing its end amid speculation he could sign with WWE and AAA. The connection there is hard to ignore: Dralistico previously wrestled as the second Mistico in CMLL during the same period the original Mistico was under WWE contract as Sin Cara, which would make him taking on the Sin Cara name in WWE a fitting bit of symmetry.

None of this is confirmed as official WWE plans yet, and there’s no word on timing for when — or if — the character resurfaces. But given WWE’s deepening investment in AAA and lucha-style presentation, reviving Sin Cara as a sustainable, recastable property makes sense as a long-term play rather than a one-off nostalgia moment. Whether it’s Myzteziz Jr., Dralistico, or someone else entirely who ends up under the mask, it’s a storyline worth tracking as WWE continues building out its lucha libre presence on both sides of the border.
