Chad Gable’s ‘Original El Grande Americano’ Character Moved to WWE Alumni Section

The Original El Grande Americano character, which was portrayed by Chad Gable, has been quietly moved to the alumni section of WWE’s official roster page — a formal acknowledgment that the persona is done following the conclusion of his feud with Ludwig Kaiser.

The saga began when Gable, in the midst of a losing streak against luchadores, sought guidance from Dominik Mysterio, who connected him with contacts in Mexico. Gable returned to WWE sporting a luchador mask and billing himself as a lucha libre legend, but an injury derailed the run and Ludwig Kaiser stepped in to take over the El Grande Americano character. Kaiser’s version connected strongly with fans, particularly in Mexico, where he became a top babyface on the WWE AAA brand.

Gable made his comeback at Royal Rumble earlier this year as the “Original” El Grande Americano, immediately setting the stage for a collision between the two versions of the character. That feud reached its conclusion at WWE AAA Noche De Los Grandes, where Kaiser’s Americano defeated Gable’s in a mask vs. mask match. The loss forced Gable to unmask and effectively retire the character for good.

Since unmasking, Gable has reappeared on Raw and SmackDown under his own name, framing his return as an attempt to make amends for the direction his career took over the past couple of years. Notably, WWE’s roster page had been listing Gable and the Original El Grande Americano as two separate entries — now the OG Americano has been shifted to alumni while Kaiser’s El Grande Americano profile remains active alongside Kaiser’s own listing.

The roster update puts a tidy administrative bow on what was an unusually layered character story. Whether Gable’s fresh start as himself leads to meaningful positioning on the main roster remains to be seen.
