JBL Calls Chad Gable the Best Worker in the World

JBL is not shy about how far he thinks Chad Gable has come. Speaking on his own podcast, Something to Wrestle, the WWE Hall of Famer and longtime broadcaster said he now views Gable as possibly the finest in-ring performer in wrestling, pointing specifically to Gable’s Mask vs. Mask match during his run in AAA as the best match he has ever called for WWE.

JBL said he watched Gable’s game rise to another level while working in AAA, floating the idea that conversations with The Undertaker, who now oversees the promotion’s creative direction, played a part in that growth. “I saw Chad elevate his game down in AAA. Maybe it was The Undertaker talking with him, but I saw Chad just reach a different level,” JBL said.

He didn’t stop there. JBL admitted his overall assessment of Gable has shifted dramatically after seeing that stretch of work. “I thought Chad was a terrific worker. I think now he’s a world class worker. I think he might be the best worker in the world. All of a sudden that light went on,” he said, later adding that Gable’s control of a match is on another level entirely. “That guy is a general, man. He’s so freaking good.”

The praise lines up with comments Gable himself made recently on the podcast What Do You Wanna Talk About?, where he credited The Undertaker with drawing something out of him that other coaches and producers had tried and failed to unlock over the years. “He gets the credit for pulling something out of me that a number of people have tried to over the years and just haven’t been able to,” Gable said.

JBL also used the moment to look ahead to SummerSlam, where Gable is set to challenge Penta for the Intercontinental Championship on Night Two. While calling Penta “fantastic,” JBL predicted Gable is walking away with the title, suggesting WWE may be positioning Penta for a move up to the world heavyweight title picture afterward. “I think Chad’s going over in this. I think it’s Chad’s time,” he said.

For Gable, capturing the Intercontinental Championship would be more than just another accolade. The former Olympic wrestler has talked openly in the past about an on-screen vow to win the title, framing it as a personal goal that has stuck with him regardless of how his character or alliances have shifted over the years. Despite years of strong showings and a reputation as one of the most technically sound performers on the roster, a singles title has remained just out of reach.

The AAA stint appears to have reshaped how people around WWE view Gable’s ceiling, and JBL’s comments add another prominent voice to that growing chorus. If SummerSlam does end with Gable finally getting his hand raised as Intercontinental Champion, it would cap off a run that clearly changed the way at least one Hall of Famer sees him. Whether Penta’s next chapter really is a run toward the world title picture remains to be seen, but for now, all eyes are on Night Two of SummerSlam.
