Chad Gable Wins Seven-Man Gauntlet, Earns IC Title Shot Against Penta at SummerSlam

Chad Gable punched his ticket to SummerSlam the hard way, surviving a brutal seven-man gauntlet on the July 13 edition of Raw to earn a shot at Penta’s WWE Intercontinental Championship.

The gauntlet featured a stacked field — Dragon Lee, Joe Hendry, Je’Von Evans, Dominik Mysterio, Ethan Page, and Rusev all stood between Gable and the opportunity. The match opened with Dominik Mysterio edging out Hendry after JD McDonagh provided a timely distraction from ringside. Je’Von Evans then entered and brought a burst of speed to the proceedings, capitalizing on some unexpected chaos — Danhausen attempted to curse Mysterio, but a malfunctioning turnbuckle threw the match into disarray — and Evans put Mysterio away with the OG Cutter. He kept rolling against Dragon Lee, catching the high-flyer with a sudden roll-up to rack up another elimination.

Rusev brought the gauntlet to a grinding halt. Evans showed real grit, escaping the Accolade once before Rusev reapplied it, and the referee ultimately stopped the match when Evans passed out in the hold. Gable stepped in and matched Rusev’s physicality, escaping both a Machka Kick and the Accolade before rolling Rusev up for the surprise three count.

The momentum swing was short-lived. A livid Rusev attacked Gable after the bell, locking him in another Accolade and leaving him battered as Ethan Page waited to pounce. Page taunted Gable and landed a Codebreaker, seemingly on the verge of stealing the opportunity — but Gable refused to fold. He fired back with an Olympic Slam and sealed the win by forcing Page to tap to the Ankle Lock.

The moment that followed set the tone for what’s ahead: Penta came to the ring and extended a handshake, showing genuine respect for what Gable had just endured. The two are now set to collide for the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam, scheduled for August 1–2 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
