Paul Heyman Reveals What He and Brock Lesnar Said to Each Other in That WrestleMania 42 Ring Moment

The emotional scene between Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 looked significant in the moment — and now Heyman has explained exactly what was exchanged between the two men.

Appearing on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Heyman opened up about the conversation that took place after Lesnar lost to Oba Femi and famously removed his boots and gloves in what many took to be a retirement gesture. According to Heyman, the exchange was as simple and genuine as it looked.

“I thanked him for everything. He thanked me for everything. I told him that I love him. He told me that he loves me,” Heyman said. “Then I asked him if he finds it funny that the two of us are standing in the middle of the ring, in the middle of the stadium, in the middle of WrestleMania, being broadcast all over ESPN, telling each other that we love each other. I said, ‘This is kind of a surreal moment.’ He goes, ‘F**k them! Don’t worry about that, this is just for us.'”

Heyman described it as a deeply personal moment that neither man was reluctant to share publicly. “It was just a very personal moment that we were not hesitant to share with the rest of the world. It was a very emotional moment.”

As it turned out, the WrestleMania scene did not mark the end of Lesnar’s in-ring career. Lesnar subsequently competed at Clash in Italy, picking up a win over the same man he lost to at WrestleMania — Oba Femi. When Van Vliet pressed Heyman on what fans should make of the WrestleMania moment in that context, Heyman kept the focus on the emotional weight of what was shared rather than what came after.

“I would remember how I felt watching it,” Heyman said. “I remember all that it encompassed, and I would be appreciative of the fact that I got to live that moment and experience it and hold it in my data bank as a fan.”
