Paul Heyman Opens Up About Hospitalization That Caused His Noticeably Deep Tan on WWE RAW

Paul Heyman has an explanation for the striking tan that drew attention during his WWE RAW appearances — and it traces back to a serious health scare.

Appearing as a guest on Chris Van Vliet’s INSIGHT podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer addressed something fans had clearly noticed: an unusually intense tan that stuck around for several weeks during his on-screen appearances. When Van Vliet brought it up, Heyman connected the look to a recent hospitalization, revealing that a serious infection had landed him in the hospital and that the tan was a byproduct of the experience. Heyman himself described the resulting complexion as “ridiculous.”

Heyman has long been one of WWE’s most prominent figures, serving in an on-screen role closely tied to Roman Reigns and The Bloodline over recent years before that partnership ran its course. His appearances on RAW have continued to keep him in the public eye, which is precisely why the noticeably bronzed look became a talking point among viewers.

The revelation adds some context to what fans were seeing on screen during that stretch. While Heyman treated the subject with characteristic humor, the underlying cause — a serious infection requiring hospitalization — is a reminder that the demands of the business don’t pause for health setbacks. For one of wrestling’s most recognizable personalities, the show, and apparently the tan, went on regardless.

Heyman’s full conversation with Van Vliet is available on the INSIGHT podcast.
