Nia Jax, Charlotte Flair Set For Ladder Match Qualifier On SmackDown

WWE has added another Interim Women’s Championship Ladder match qualifier to the July 24 episode of SmackDown, with Nia Jax set to face Charlotte Flair for a spot in the multi-woman ladder match at SummerSlam.

The addition stems directly from the fallout of the July 17 SmackDown, where Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill both punched their tickets to the SummerSlam ladder match. Cargill’s win over her qualifying opponent came with an assist from Flair, who interfered to help secure the victory. That outside involvement didn’t sit well with Jax, setting the stage for the two to settle things directly with a spot in the SummerSlam match on the line.

With Stratton and Cargill already confirmed for the ladder match, the winner between Jax and Flair would become the third entrant, continuing to fill out the field for what’s shaping up to be one of the more chaotic attractions on the SummerSlam card. The Interim WWE Women’s Championship has been a focal point of the blue brand in recent weeks, and the ladder match stipulation guarantees it won’t be settled quietly.

Jax and Flair have plenty of history between them, and adding a title opportunity to the mix only raises the stakes. Given Flair’s willingness to insert herself into other people’s business already, there’s no guarantee this one stays a straightforward one-on-one qualifier either.

WWE has not yet detailed the full field for the SummerSlam ladder match beyond Stratton and Cargill, but the July 24 SmackDown qualifier gives fans a clear reason to tune in as the road to SummerSlam continues to take shape.
