Mystery Former WWE Multi-Time Singles Champion Set To Debut At TNA Slammiversary In Boston

TNA Wrestling is set to unveil a surprise debut at this weekend’s Slammiversary event in Boston, Massachusetts, with a former WWE multi-time singles champion expected to appear — and compete — on the show.

The word circulating is that the incoming talent held singles gold on multiple occasions during their time in WWE, though no further specifics about the individual’s identity or which titles they held have surfaced. What has been confirmed is that this person will not only be present at Slammiversary but will actually be wrestling on the card, making it a full in-ring debut for the promotion.

The timing rules out most of the names released by WWE back in April, whose 90-day non-compete clauses won’t expire until July. That window effectively takes a large chunk of the recently available talent pool off the table, unless a contract situation from that group went unreported. Kay Lee Ray, who departed WWE via contract expiration rather than a release and is therefore free to work elsewhere immediately, wouldn’t seem to fit the bill either — her only singles title run in the company was a single NXT UK Women’s Championship reign.

That still leaves a number of notable free agents who check the multi-time singles champion box, including former world champions Jinder Mahal and Braun Strowman, among others.

The debut arrives during a turbulent stretch for TNA. The promotion has seen several departures in recent days, both on the talent side and behind the scenes, including the exit of former head of creative Tommy Dreamer. Former WWE SmackDown writer Road Dogg is reportedly being considered as Dreamer’s replacement and is expected to be on-site at Slammiversary as well.

TNA has been aggressive in adding former WWE names to its roster over the past year — most recently signing Fabian Aichner, formerly known as Giovanni Vinci — so another high-profile addition would fit the direction the company appears to be heading. All eyes will be on Boston to see who walks through the door.
