Kevin Knight Sets New TNT Title Defense Record

Kevin Knight has made AEW history, setting a new benchmark for the most successful defenses in a single TNT Championship reign. “The Jet” picked up his ninth title defense by defeating AR Fox on the July 18 episode of AEW Collision, a match taped two days earlier at Boston’s MGM Music Hall.

AEW confirmed the achievement on social media, congratulating Knight for topping the previous mark of eight defenses. That record had been set by Cody Rhodes during the inaugural TNT Championship reign back in 2020, and was later matched — but never beaten — by Darby Allin, Miro, and Kyle Fletcher.

Knight’s reign began at Dynasty on April 12, when he won a Casino Gauntlet Match to capture the vacant title. Since then, he has run through a murderers’ row of challengers, turning back Claudio Castagnoli, MJF, Hook, Brian Cage, Mike Bailey, Myron Reed, Desmond Xavier, Lio Rush, and now AR Fox to keep the belt around his waist.

According to Cagematch’s title history, Knight now stands alone as the sole record holder for successful TNT Championship defenses in one reign, and he’s also recognized as the title’s 32nd champion overall. Given the level of competition he’s already dispatched, there’s no shortage of contenders lining up to try to end his run — but for now, “The Jet” is flying higher than any TNT Champion before him.
