Izzi Dame Turns Down Title Shot, Wants Zaria One-on-One

Izzi Dame has agreed to face Zaria at NXT Halloween Havoc, but she doesn’t want the champion’s title anywhere near the match. The two had a tense confrontation on the October 20 episode of NXT after Dame picked up a win over Layla Diggs, with Zaria stepping out to issue a challenge. Rather than jumping at a chance to become a titleholder, Dame made clear this is about settling a personal score, not padding her résumé with gold.

It’s a notable wrinkle in a rivalry that’s clearly built on more than championship ambition. Turning down a title opportunity isn’t something you see often in NXT, where the brand has leaned heavily on title matches to headline its signature events. By stripping the belt out of the equation, Dame is signaling that whatever is brewing between her and Zaria runs deeper than a standard contender angle — and it gives NXT a reason to frame Halloween Havoc as a grudge match rather than just another defense.

From a storytelling standpoint, this kind of move also protects Zaria’s championship status while still delivering a marquee attraction for the show. If Dame wanted the title, a loss would knock her down the pecking order and potentially stall her momentum. By keeping the belt off the table, she gets to settle things with Zaria without the stakes of a title change hanging over the finish, and WWE creative gets to keep its options open for how it wants to build the title picture going forward.

Zaria, for her part, has been positioned as a dominant presence atop the division, and the way she sought out Dame immediately after her win over Diggs suggests this issue has been simmering for a while. Whatever personal history exists between the two hasn’t been spelled out yet, but the intensity of their TV confrontation indicates NXT is building toward something with real heat behind it.

Halloween Havoc has become one of NXT’s showcase events, and matches without titles on the line can still end up stealing the show when the underlying story is strong enough. Dame rejecting the easy path to a championship opportunity suggests WWE wants fans invested in the conflict itself, not just the stakes of a title change. Expect more context on why Dame has it out for Zaria as the show approaches, and watch for NXT to use the lead-up weeks to flesh out exactly what triggered this rivalry in the first place.
