Chad Gable Says He’s ‘Creatively Fulfilled’ After El Grande Americano Journey and WWE Babyface Turn

Chad Gable is in a good place. Fresh off one of the most talked-about matches in recent WWE memory and now several weeks into a babyface run for the first time in over two years, the former Alpha Academy leader says his headspace has never been better.

Appearing on Good Karma Wrestling, Gable opened up about where he stands following an eventful stretch that included a return from a torn rotator cuff, a months-long feud fought under a mask, and a Mask vs. Mask showdown with Ludwig Kaiser — the man who took over the El Grande Americano character — at AAA Noche De Los Grandes on May 30. That match earned widespread acclaim as one of the best WWE has produced in recent memory, and it marked the end of Gable’s run as the “Original” El Grande Americano.

“It has been just a wild month for me as you can imagine,” Gable said. “I’m in good spirits, I feel like I’m in some of the best headspace I’ve ever been in wrestling. Things have been up and down for a long long time, and right now I feel like we’re in just this awesome spot where I’m just creatively fulfilled. Just everything’s going well on the show, we’ve got some great stories going on… and we’re in a good spot man. I’m so happy.”

Gable also reflected on how unpredictable the path to that Mask vs. Mask moment truly was. He returned during the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble under the mask after his injury layoff, resumed the El Grande Americano persona, and eventually feuded with Kaiser across both WWE and AAA programming — a route that, he admitted, he never could have predicted when the character was first pitched to him.

“Not a chance, no way,” Gable said. “Something as obvious as my injury right? And me having to go away. If I hadn’t gotten injured, none of this would have taken the route that it did. And it’s just magic. That’s what wrestling is. The story’s not written from the beginning. The ending isn’t determined from the beginning. It’s like we can go a million different directions and sometimes it creates magic.”

Now on the other side of that chapter, Gable is working through an apology tour on WWE television, making amends with the lucha libre stars he wronged during his time under the mask. He’s also attempted to reconcile with his former Alpha Academy stablemates, though that reunion remains unresolved — they have yet to accept his change of heart. With the “Original” El Grande Americano character officially removed from WWE’s roster page, Gable’s next chapter as a babyface is fully underway.
