AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla Calls Out ‘Lame’ Wedding Posts, Questions Wrestler-On-Wrestler Dating

AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla has never been shy about sharing her unfiltered opinions, and a recent interview with TMZ was no different — this time tackling the subject of wrestlers dating one another.

The Austrian champion said she’s genuinely torn on whether it’s a good idea for wrestlers to date within the industry, acknowledging both the appeal and the complications. On the practical side, she noted that the lifestyle professional wrestlers lead is difficult to explain to someone on the outside. “It’s probably hard to date somebody who isn’t immersed in your world as we live very strange lives, professional wrestlers,” she said. “It’s hard to explain all that. All the travel and all the horniness.”

But Thekla also had some pointed thoughts about how some wrestlers conduct themselves once they do find love — specifically taking aim at the trend of tough, badass on-screen personas going soft on social media. “A lot of very badass-portrayed people on TV become extremely lame when they post photos of themselves getting married in some cute little church in the middle of a beach in Italy or something,” she said. “I find it whack as hell. I don’t care what you do in your private life, but as a professional, I wouldn’t post that s**t.”

It’s the kind of candid, no-nonsense commentary that has helped Thekla carve out a distinct identity since arriving in AEW. Since capturing the Women’s World Championship, she has become one of the promotion’s most outspoken figures — on-screen and off — and her willingness to say what others won’t has only added to her character’s credibility.
