AEW Dynamite Preview: Trios Titles Defended, Moné Celebrates

AEW Dynamite airs live from the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, on Wednesday, September 2, with the show built entirely around the fallout from All In: London at Wembley Stadium — arguably the biggest night in the promotion’s history.

The headline attraction from that show still looms large: Will Ospreay dethroned Kenny Omega to become the first UK-born wrestler to win a world championship on UK soil, and Mercedes Moné finally captured the AEW Women’s World Championship, beating Willow Nightingale in a match that lived up to the title’s pedigree. Wembley also saw the surprise AEW arrivals of Austin Creed and Kofi, who teamed with Swerve Strickland as The New Level to walk out of the Trios Roulette Royale as AEW World Trios Champions, plus the returns of Britt Baker and Sting.

On Dynamite, Creed and Kofi make their first appearance on the flagship show, putting the Trios Titles on the line alongside Strickland against The Rascalz — Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz and Myron Reed, who impressed with Lio Rush in a win over The Opps on the London Buy In. It’s a quick turnaround for the new champions, who now have to defend against a hungry trio looking to make a statement in their first Dynamite test since the title change. Given how unexpected Strickland’s pairing with two newly arrived names was, this match doubles as a chance to see how quickly The New Level can build chemistry under pressure, and whether The Rascalz can parlay their Buy In momentum into gold.

Elsewhere, Moné gets her moment in the spotlight with a championship celebration in Allen after finally securing the title that had eluded her throughout her AEW run. Moné has never been shy about grand gestures, and given her track record of turning celebrations into launching pads for new rivalries, it’s fair to expect this segment to set the tone for her first title reign rather than simply serve as a victory lap. Nightingale’s response, if any, and the identity of Moné’s next challenger will be worth watching closely.

With so much fresh storyline material coming out of Wembley — new champions, returning legends, and a shifting landscape atop both the trios and women’s divisions — this Dynamite serves as the first real checkpoint for how AEW plans to build off its biggest show of the year. Coverage of the Allen, Texas card continues throughout the night.
