Mickie James Names Dream WWE Opponents For Nick Aldis

Mickie James has some ideas for who her husband Nick Aldis should be lacing up his boots against inside a WWE ring, and the wish list reads like a murderers’ row of SmackDown’s top stars. James pointed to Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre as the three opponents she’d most like to see Aldis face, with Rhodes carrying particular significance given the two are set to collide at All In.

Aldis has spent the bulk of his current WWE tenure on the authority side of the desk rather than between the ropes, serving as SmackDown General Manager and using that platform to needle and antagonize much of the roster. That includes pointed exchanges with Orton and McIntyre, two of the promotion’s most decorated in-ring veterans, as well as his more recent and increasingly personal confrontations with Rhodes that have escalated toward their upcoming All In showdown.

For James, the appeal is obvious. Aldis built his reputation long before WWE as one of the best pure in-ring workers outside the company, headlining NWA shows and racking up praise for his technical style and old-school title defenses. Since arriving in WWE, though, he’s largely been positioned as a mouthpiece and a thorn in the roster’s side rather than a featured competitor, which has left plenty of fans — evidently including his own wife — wanting to see him actually wrestle the level of talent he keeps talking down.

That makes the All In match against Rhodes a pivotal moment. It’s framed as Aldis stepping out from behind the GM’s desk and finally backing up the trash talk in the ring, against arguably the most prominent star of the current WWE product. A strong showing there would go a long way toward reshaping how the audience — and possibly WWE creative — views Aldis as an in-ring option rather than purely an authority figure.

Orton and McIntyre make sense as the next names on the list for similar reasons. Both have history sparring verbally with Aldis during his GM run, and both are exactly the kind of established main-event-caliber opponents who could help validate Aldis as a wrestler in his own right if the chemistry with Rhodes translates into something bigger. Orton’s legendary in-ring resume and McIntyre’s brawling intensity would each offer a very different test than the high-stakes spectacle of an All In main event.

Whether WWE actually goes down that road remains to be seen. Authority figures who dabble in occasional matches are nothing new in wrestling, but turning Aldis into a recurring in-ring threat would mark a notable shift in how he’s been used since taking over as GM. The Rhodes match at All In is the clearest signal yet that the company may be willing to let him step out of the office more often.

For now, Aldis’s in-ring future beyond All In is unclear, but if his wife’s wish list is any indication, there’s an appetite — inside the family and likely among fans — to see him tested against the best SmackDown has to offer.
