AJ Styles Says WWE Should Push Bron Breakker to World Title Now

AJ Styles thinks WWE is sitting on a goldmine by not putting the World Heavyweight Championship on Bron Breakker, and he made his case loudly on The Phenomenally Retro Podcast.

Styles praised Breakker’s trajectory and questioned why the powerhouse hasn’t already been elevated to the top of the card. “How long are we going to wait for Bron Breakker to be heavyweight champion? He should be next,” Styles said. “I think that he’s definitely a star right now. Why we haven’t put it on him to put the rocket up his butt and send him to the freaking moon? I don’t know why we haven’t done that because he is the destroyer.”

Styles also pointed to Breakker’s recent return from injury as proof he’s ready for a bigger spotlight, saying he looks “even scarier than before.” He framed the ideal path as a classic chase dynamic, with Breakker cast as the heel a babyface champion eventually has to hunt down.

The comments arrive amid growing uncertainty about Breakker’s creative direction. Dave Meltzer has reported that WWE originally planned for Breakker to lose to CM Punk before eventually beating him for the World Heavyweight Championship, but those plans reportedly shifted after Seth Rollins’ injury disrupted the timeline of the Vision storyline. Meltzer has since suggested that Oba Femi may have passed Breakker as the company’s primary rising star, though he stopped short of writing Breakker off entirely.

Right now, the on-screen reality backs up that uncertainty. Breakker is not currently part of the World Heavyweight Championship picture, and after Logan Paul’s injury, he stepped in as Austin Theory’s partner in the World Tag Team Championship scene instead. As of now, he isn’t advertised for a match at SummerSlam.

That’s a notably modest spot for a wrestler many fans and peers, evidently including Styles, view as a future top champion. Breakker’s size, intensity and in-ring polish have made him a fixture of main-event conversations since his call-up, and his brief Intercontinental Championship reign only reinforced the sense that he was being groomed for something bigger. The pivot toward tag team programming, paired with Meltzer’s reporting on internal plans changing, suggests WWE may be recalibrating rather than abandoning him.

Styles isn’t suggesting Breakker needs to blow up his current alliance immediately, but his larger point is hard to argue with: championship windows don’t stay open forever, and momentum matters. With Femi seemingly gaining ground and Breakker parked in tag team business heading into SummerSlam season, it’s a fair question whether WWE circles back to the original vision for him or lets that opportunity slip toward someone else. Either way, expect the chatter around Breakker’s next move to only get louder as SummerSlam approaches.
