Amazing Red Wants Dream Match With Retired AJ Styles

TNA Hall of Famer Amazing Red is publicly campaigning for a dream match against AJ Styles, floating the idea that the WWE Hall of Famer could be convinced to step back into the ring under the right circumstances.

Styles officially walked away from in-ring competition after losing to Gunther at the 2026 Royal Rumble, closing out one of the most decorated careers in modern wrestling history. But according to Amazing Red, Styles hasn’t shut the door entirely on a future match, leaving just enough daylight for speculation about a potential one-off appearance down the road.

For longtime fans, the connection between the two makes plenty of sense. Amazing Red and AJ Styles crossed paths repeatedly in the early-to-mid 2000s, cutting their teeth in the indie scene and in TNA during the promotion’s formative years, when high-flying, hard-hitting X Division-style wrestling helped put the company on the map. Styles went on to become one of the most accomplished in-ring performers of his generation, with runs atop TNA, NJPW, WWE, and beyond, while Red remained a beloved figure in the cruiserweight and X Division space, eventually earning his spot in the TNA Hall of Fame.

A retirement isn’t always the final word in professional wrestling, and Styles’ own send-off at the Royal Rumble was framed as the symbolic end of an era rather than a hard stop with zero wiggle room. That nuance is exactly what Amazing Red appears to be leaning on. Wrestlers of Styles’ caliber rarely vanish completely — think of how many ‘final matches’ in this industry have turned out to be anything but — and the fact that Styles reportedly hasn’t fully closed that chapter will only fuel speculation among fans hoping for one more run.

Whether that comes in the form of a nostalgia-driven indie or TNA appearance, a surprise one-night-only match, or simply talk that never materializes remains to be seen. Styles has spent nearly three decades building a reputation as one of wrestling’s most respected in-ring technicians, and any hint of a return — even a vague one — tends to generate instant buzz across the wrestling world.

For now, there’s no indication that a match between Amazing Red and AJ Styles is actually being planned or discussed internally by any promotion. This is, at least publicly, one Hall of Famer’s wish rather than a confirmed program. But in an industry where comeback rumors routinely snowball into reality, it’s the kind of story worth keeping an eye on — especially if TNA, where both men have deep roots, ever sees an opening to capitalize on the nostalgia.

If nothing else, the renewed chatter is a reminder of how much goodwill Styles built up over his career, and how eager fans and fellow wrestlers alike still are to see him back in a ring, even if only for one more night.
