Penta Says WWE’s AAA Acquisition Has Made It Easier for Luchadores to Reach WWE

Penta has weighed in on WWE’s acquisition of AAA, saying the deal has opened doors for luchadores that previously weren’t there — and that he views the change as a positive development for the wrestling business as a whole.

The masked superstar noted that it is now easier for Mexican talent to make their way to WWE as a direct result of the company taking ownership of AAA. WWE announced the acquisition of the storied lucha libre promotion last year and has since been running the product, with WWE talent becoming a regular presence on AAA programming in the time since.

Penta’s comments carry some weight given his own cross-promotional journey. Having worked extensively on the independent scene and in major promotions on both sides of the border before landing in WWE, he has a firsthand perspective on just how high the barriers to entry once were for luchadores looking to break into the American mainstream. The AAA pipeline, in his view, is helping lower those barriers in a meaningful way.

The relationship between WWE and AAA represents one of the more significant structural shifts the business has seen in years, blending two distinct wrestling cultures under the same corporate umbrella. For luchadores with aspirations of competing on WWE’s biggest stages, the path now appears more clearly defined than at any previous point in the companies’ histories.

Whether that translates into a broader wave of lucha talent making the jump in the coming months remains to be seen, but Penta’s endorsement of the arrangement suggests the sentiment inside the locker room is broadly optimistic.
