Jim Ross Set to Leave Hospital Tuesday, Gets Encouraging Call From Stone Cold Steve Austin

Jim Ross is on his way home. The AEW commentator and WWE Hall of Famer announced he’ll be discharged from the hospital this Tuesday, capping off a stay that has stretched across several weeks.

Ross broke the news himself on social media, also revealing he had a morale-boosting conversation with Stone Cold Steve Austin along the way. “Going home this Tuesday!” Ross wrote. “Had a great phone visit with @steveaustinBSR today. Biz is picking up!”

Conrad Thompson, Ross’s co-host on the Grillin’ JR podcast, offered additional encouragement when a fan inquired about JR’s condition earlier this week. “He sounded terrific yesterday!” Thompson said. “Doing PT today and he’s fighting like hell to be back doing his thing!”

The hospitalization follows a difficult stretch that began around the time of AEW Double or Nothing on May 24. Ross had previously described suffering a fall in the lead-up to that event — he missed his original flight, eventually got rebooked, and then had his back give out while sitting on the edge of his hotel bed. He called it a “horrible experience,” noting significant soreness, weakness in his legs, and one leg going out from under him in the aftermath.

The specific details of his treatment during the hospital stay have not been disclosed.

Ross, one of the most recognizable voices in professional wrestling history, has been working in a limited capacity for AEW in recent years due to ongoing health concerns, appearing primarily on select pay-per-view events. His return home Tuesday marks a welcome step forward in what has clearly been a difficult recovery.
