WWE ID Champion Chazz ‘Starboy’ Hall Pulled From Big Time Wrestling Match, Matt Sydal Steps In

WWE ID Champion Chazz ‘Starboy’ Hall Pulled From Big Time Wrestling Match, Matt Sydal Steps In

WWE ID Men’s Champion Chazz “Starboy” Hall will no longer compete at Big Time Wrestling’s upcoming Misery Business event, with the promotion citing “contractual obligations” as the reason for his removal.

Hall had been advertised since May 22 to challenge AEW’s Aaron Solo for the BTW World Championship at the July 17 show. Big Time Wrestling confirmed the change publicly, announcing that Matt Sydal — also currently signed to AEW and best known to WWE fans as Evan Bourne — will step in as Solo’s opponent, with the BTW World Championship still on the line.

Sydal is no stranger to BTW. Back in March 2018, he defended the TNA X-Division Championship at two crossover events with the promotion, successfully retaining the title on both occasions against Eddie Edwards. His history with BTW makes him a natural fit as a replacement, even if the circumstances aren’t ideal for the fans who were looking forward to seeing Hall.

The WWE ID program allows independent wrestlers to remain active on the indie circuit while receiving mentorship and development resources from WWE. Many ID signees have appeared on WWE Evolve, the pre-recorded Tubi series that launched in early 2024, and a number have since transitioned to NXT. Whether Hall’s removal is tied to an Evolve taping or some other obligation hasn’t been confirmed.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Evolve Men’s Champion Aaron Rourke was similarly pulled from a Limitless Wrestling event on June 20, also cited as a contractual obligation. When asked whether they’d move away from booking WWE ID talent after losing Rourke, Limitless Wrestling indicated they had no plans to stop, viewing those signings as a positive for their shows and fanbase.

For independent promotions, the calculus is clear — the upside of featuring rising talent connected to WWE’s developmental pipeline outweighs the occasional last-minute scramble when obligations come calling. For the fans, though, having an anticipated match vanish from a card is always a tough pill to swallow, regardless of who fills the spot.
