WWE and Fanatics Pull ‘Match-Used Steel Chair’ Auction After Fans Spot Major Problem With Listing

A memorabilia auction gone wrong has forced WWE and Fanatics to quietly pull a listing that had drawn unwanted attention from sharp-eyed fans.

The item in question was a steel chair being sold through Fanatics’ auction platform, with WWE marketing it as having been used during the women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series 2022. The problem? Fans identified a significant issue with the listing — enough of one that the auction was taken down entirely rather than corrected or relisted.

The specifics of what fans flagged haven’t been fully detailed in available reporting, but the swift removal of the auction suggests whoever oversees these listings recognized the error was serious enough that keeping it up wasn’t an option. Whether the chair’s provenance was questionable, the item itself was misidentified, or something else entirely tripped the alarm, the end result was the same: the listing disappeared.

It’s a notable stumble for what has become a significant revenue stream for WWE. The company has leaned heavily into authenticated memorabilia and collectibles in recent years, with match-used props, signed gear, and event-specific items commanding real money from collectors and hardcore fans. The credibility of those auctions depends entirely on the accuracy of what’s being sold — so a blunder like this, however it originated, is exactly the kind of thing that erodes trust with the collector community.

As of now, there’s no indication the auction has been relisted or that WWE or Fanatics have issued any public statement addressing what went wrong.
