Volador Jr. Becomes Two-Time CMLL World Historic Middleweight Champion, Ends Flip Gordon’s 595-Day Reign

Volador Jr. made history on Friday, July 3, 2026, dethroning Flip Gordon to capture the CMLL World Historic Middleweight Championship during Viernes Espectacular — becoming the first wrestler ever to hold the title on two separate occasions.

Gordon’s reign had been one of the most impressive in the championship’s history. The American standout first claimed the gold on November 15, 2024, and went on to hold it for 595 days, successfully defending the title four times along the way. Among those defenses were multiple victories over Volador Jr. himself, making the Mexican veteran’s persistence all the more notable heading into Friday’s bout.

In the end, it was a breathtaking springboard Canadian Destroyer off the second rope that sealed Gordon’s fate. Volador Jr. landed the high-impact maneuver flush and covered Gordon for the pinfall, bringing one of the longest reigns in the title’s history to a close.

The CMLL World Historic Middleweight Championship has been in existence since 2010, and Volador Jr.’s victory adds another chapter to an already storied career. No one had previously won the championship twice, making this triumph a landmark moment not just for Volador but for the lineage of the title itself.

With Gordon’s historic run now behind him, attention turns to what comes next for both men. Volador Jr. begins his second reign with a point already made — that he was the one who ended nearly 600 days of dominance. Whether Gordon pursues a rematch or a new challenger steps forward, the CMLL middleweight division has plenty of momentum heading into the second half of 2026.
