Triple H Says He Doesn’t Know If Lesnar Has Wrestled Last Match

Triple H isn’t ready to call it on Brock Lesnar’s in-ring career, even after an emotional scene closed out Night One of SummerSlam. Speaking at an unannounced post-show press conference following Saturday night’s event, WWE’s Chief Content Officer was asked whether Lesnar’s comments after losing to Oba Femi in a Hell in a Cell match meant the end of his wrestling career. Levesque said he simply doesn’t know, noting that Lesnar has always done things on his own terms.

“Brock does what Brock wants to do,” Levesque said, before delivering a lengthy tribute to his longtime performer. He pushed back on the idea that Lesnar doesn’t get enough credit as an in-ring worker, calling him one of the best of all time when it comes to psychology and believability, and praised his instincts dating back to the start of his career.

The Hell in a Cell match capped a Lesnar–Femi program that began at WrestleMania 42, after which Lesnar appeared to be walking away for good, only to resurface at Clash in Paris and set up the rematch. After Saturday’s bout, Lesnar raised Femi’s hand and referred to himself as “the past,” calling Femi “the future” — a moment Levesque echoed in his own remarks about Lesnar’s willingness to put over WWE’s next big star.

Whether that gesture was a farewell or simply another chapter remains an open question, and Levesque’s comments suggest even WWE’s own leadership isn’t certain. Lesnar has a long history of disappearing for extended stretches only to return when the moment — and the money — is right, so treating this as a definitive retirement would be premature. Still, passing the torch to Femi in such deliberate fashion feels like more than a passing storyline beat, and it’s hard not to see it as WWE positioning Femi as a genuine centerpiece going forward.

The same press conference touched on several other subjects. Levesque addressed recent comments from Damian Priest about talent feeling entitled to top spots, insisting there are no “turns” in WWE and that performers like Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Liv Morgan and IYO SKY have earned their positions through consistency and drawing power, not tenure. He also defended the decision to open SummerSlam with Morgan defending the Women’s World Championship against SKY rather than saving it for later, rejecting the notion that opening a show is a slight and pointing out that Lesnar himself has frequently opened major events.

On other fallout from the show, Levesque praised Nick Aldis for stepping into a match on short notice, noted his entrance music had only been cleared days earlier, and said the promotion would “see where it goes” regarding Aldis competing in-ring going forward. He also confirmed Brie Bella was taken for hospital scans after what looked like the show’s most serious injury, describing her shoulder as appearing “pretty bad” with no further update given. CM Punk, fielding questions from fans after the show, acknowledged having feelings about not closing the event but maintained his spot on the card doesn’t change how he views himself in the ring.

For now, the Lesnar question hangs over everything else discussed backstage — and until he says otherwise, nobody at WWE seems willing to bet against seeing him again.
