Trevor Murdoch Tips Carson Drake As Future NWA Champion

Trevor Murdoch is high on one of the NWA’s rising stars. The two-time former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion has voiced his belief that Carson Drake has what it takes to one day sit atop the promotion as its world champion.

Drake, who debuted in professional wrestling back in 2021, has already built a solid résumé for a relatively young talent. He’s held the NWA WLW Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Television Championship, showing the kind of in-ring polish and title pedigree that suggests bigger things could be on the horizon.

Murdoch’s endorsement carries weight given his own history with the company’s top prize. As a former two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, he knows firsthand what it takes to climb to the top of the promotion and stay there. His comments signal that Drake, still early in his career relative to many of the NWA’s veterans, is viewed as a genuine long-term prospect by those who have already worn the top belt.

The NWA has increasingly leaned on developing its own homegrown stars, and having a respected former champion like Murdoch publicly back a talent like Drake only adds to the buzz building around him. With title reigns already under his belt at a young age, Drake appears to be exactly the type of building block the NWA wants to showcase as it continues carving out its own identity in a crowded wrestling landscape.

Whether or not Drake eventually gets his shot at the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship remains to be seen, but Murdoch’s comments add another vote of confidence to a talent clearly on the promotion’s radar. For now, Drake continues to build his case one match at a time, with plenty of eyes — including some notable ones backstage — watching his progress closely.
