Tony Khan Says Puerto Rico Is a Priority Market for AEW’s Future Expansion

AEW has its sights set on Puerto Rico. During the media call held ahead of the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view, company President Tony Khan was asked about the possibility of bringing AEW programming to the island, and his answer left little room for ambiguity.

“Absolutely. That’s a tremendous…” Khan began, making clear that Puerto Rico is firmly on his radar as a priority market for the promotion going forward. While the full details of any potential timeline or event plans were not elaborated upon during the call, Khan’s enthusiasm signaled that expansion to Puerto Rico is more than just a passing consideration for AEW leadership.

Puerto Rico has a deep and passionate pro wrestling fan base with a rich history in the sport, making it an attractive destination for any major promotion looking to grow its live event footprint. For AEW, which has been steadily expanding its reach across North America and internationally, adding Puerto Rico to the schedule would represent a meaningful step in connecting with a historically underserved market at the major-promotion level.

The comments came as part of broader pre-show media availability tied to Forbidden Door, the crossover event that brings together AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling talent under one roof. Whether Puerto Rico events materialize in the near term remains to be seen, but with Khan publicly labeling it a priority, the groundwork appears to be in place for AEW to make a push into the market sooner rather than later.
