Tommy Dreamer Calls Kenny Omega vs. MJF a ‘Love Letter to Pro Wrestling’

Kenny Omega’s AEW World Championship victory over MJF on the July 9, 2026 edition of AEW Dynamite — branded as Beach Break — is already drawing high praise from across the wrestling industry, with ECW legend Tommy Dreamer among those heaping acclaim on the bout.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Dreamer delivered an emotional breakdown of the main event, singling out both competitors for the storytelling and crowd atmosphere they generated throughout the contest. For Dreamer, one moment stood above the rest.

“MJF low-blowed Kenny Omega and then hit him with the AEW World Championship,” Dreamer said. “Omega kicked out, and that second kickout at one reminded me of Hulk Hogan hulking up. You could hear the crowd was already fully behind Kenny. They were on another level, believing, ‘He’s gonna do it. He’s gonna do it.'”

Dreamer admitted he was convinced MJF would find a way to survive, making Omega’s eventual win hit even harder. “I was sitting there thinking, ‘Wow, MJF’s going to kick out.’ But when he didn’t, you could feel the energy through your television. You saw the adulation from everyone in attendance. If you didn’t love what those two guys did, that match was a love letter to professional wrestling. It really and truly was.”

The title change ended MJF’s reign and handed Omega the AEW World Championship for the second time in his career. The win has been met with widespread enthusiasm from fans and fellow wrestlers, with Dreamer’s reaction reflecting a broader sentiment that the match stands as one of AEW’s defining main events. With AEW Brawl in the Ballpark set for Minneapolis on July 10 and the promotion heading toward Redemption in Montreal on July 26, Omega’s championship reign is already off to a momentum-building start.
