Thekla and Tony Schiavone Joke About Auctioning Off the Spit-Wiped Jacket from AEW Collision

What could have been an awkward backstage encounter has apparently turned into a running joke between two unlikely AEW personalities.

During AEW Collision: Summer Blockbuster, Thekla worked in a memorably disgusting moment — spitting into her hand and then wiping it directly onto Tony Schiavone’s suit jacket. It was exactly the kind of heel moment designed to get under the skin of both an announcer and an audience. Apparently, though, neither party is losing sleep over it.

Thekla has spoken about running into Schiavone backstage in the aftermath, revealing that the two have joked about the possibility of auctioning off the now-infamous jacket. It’s a light-hearted take on what played out as a gross-out segment on television, and it speaks to the good-natured relationship both performers seem to have behind the curtain.

Schiavone is one of professional wrestling’s most enduring voices, having called matches across multiple eras and promotions before landing with AEW at its launch. Being a target for heel antics comes with the territory for any ringside announcer, and Schiavone has never been above getting involved in on-screen moments that serve the talent. Thekla, meanwhile, has carved out a niche in AEW as a reliably entertaining performer with a flair for the theatrical — and, as it turns out, the unsanitary.

Whether or not that jacket ever makes it to an auction block remains to be seen, but the fact that both sides are finding the humor in it suggests the segment landed exactly as intended.
