Tessa Blanchard Set to Debut in MLW at Fightland

Tessa Blanchard is heading to Major League Wrestling, with the promotion announcing that the self-styled “Undeniable Diamond” will make her in-ring debut on Saturday, September 12 at Fightland, held at Festival Hall in Charleston, South Carolina. The show doubles as an MLW Fusion television taping.

Blanchard addressed the move in a statement released by MLW, saying, “Heavy is the crown, but legacy isn’t handed to you… it’s forged under pressure. I’ve earned my place as one of the best in the world at what I do, but I’m not coming to MLW to rest on the Blanchard name. MLW is bringing some of the purest, hardest-hitting action in the sport today, and the Undeniable Diamond belongs right at the top of it.”

The signing drops Blanchard into an MLW women’s division that has quietly built real depth. Shotzi Blackheart currently holds the MLW Women’s World Championship after winning it from Shoko Nakajima on Fusion earlier this year, with a title lineage that also includes Scarlett Bordeaux, Lady Frost, Zamaya and Priscilla Kelly. Blanchard’s arrival immediately positions her as one of the biggest names to enter that title picture, and it’s hard to imagine MLW brought her in for anything other than a run at Blackheart’s championship sooner rather than later.

Blanchard’s career has taken her well outside the traditional North American independent and major-promotion track in recent years. Raised in the Carolinas, she now lives in Mexico City and has become a fixture in lucha libre, working in front of crowds as large as 18,000 at the historic Arena México, where she’s known as La Gringa Más Mexicana. That run has reportedly sharpened her in-ring instincts and adaptability, and MLW is clearly banking on that lucha-influenced style meshing well with its own hard-hitting, internationally-flavored presentation.

She’s also wrestling’s wrestling in her blood: a third-generation performer, Blanchard is the daughter of Four Horsemen legend Tully Blanchard and granddaughter of Joe Blanchard. She’s spent much of her career establishing her own identity separate from that lineage, and MLW framing her debut around that theme suggests the promotion plans to lean into her as a top-tier singles star rather than a nostalgia act.

Fightland is one of MLW’s marquee annual events, running since 2018, and this year’s edition already carries a stacked lineup. MLW World Heavyweight Champion Killer Kross, newly crowned Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers, National Openweight Champion Austin Aries and Southern Crown Champion Trevor Lee are all advertised, along with Matt Riddle, Paul Walter Hauser, Donovan Dijak and LaBron Kozone.

MLW has spent the past couple of years positioning itself as a home for free-agent talent looking for a harder-edged, more international style of pro wrestling, and landing Blanchard is one of its bigger gets on the women’s side to date. How quickly she’s worked into the title conversation around Blackheart figures to be the first thing to watch once she steps through the ropes in Charleston.

Tickets for Fightland start at $10 through MLWgo.com, and MLW Fusion airs free on YouTube and Veeps on Saturday nights, with an additional Monday airing on NJPW World.
