Tatanka’s Son Joseph Set for WWE Tryout at SummerSlam

Tatanka has confirmed that his son Joseph will be getting a tryout with WWE at SummerSlam, giving the next generation of his family a shot at breaking into the wrestling business.

The former Intercontinental Championship contender and longtime WWE fan favorite signed a WWE Legends contract back in 2015, and it appears that relationship with the company has opened a door for his son. Tryouts held around major WWE events like SummerSlam are a well-established part of how the company scouts new talent, typically drawing athletes from football, combat sports, and other athletic backgrounds alongside second-generation prospects.

Joseph’s tryout puts him in a position plenty of aspiring wrestlers would envy. WWE’s talent recruitment pipeline — centered largely around WWE NXT — has produced some of the company’s biggest current stars, and landing even a developmental deal off a SummerSlam tryout can be a life-changing opportunity.

Tatanka, born Chris Chavis, carved out a memorable run in WWE during the early-to-mid 1990s, becoming one of the more recognizable characters of that era with an undefeated streak that captured fan attention before an eventual heel turn. His Legends deal has kept him connected to the WWE universe in the years since his in-ring career wound down.

Whether Joseph earns a developmental contract will ultimately come down to what he shows in the tryout, but having a father with deep WWE ties — and a Legends contract that keeps that relationship warm — certainly doesn’t hurt his chances of getting noticed.
