Speculation Mounts Over Next Challenger For Darby Allin’s TNT Title

Darby Allin is settling into his third reign as AEW TNT Champion after winning the belt from Kevin Knight in a Falls Count Anywhere match at All In London 2026, and he has already notched two successful defenses since then. With no clear number-one contender locked in yet, the door is open for a handful of names to emerge as Allin’s next challenger.

The most obvious candidate is Knight himself. “The Jet” had built a genuinely historic reign before Wembley Stadium, racking up ten successful defenses before Allin ended it. He has not received a rematch since dropping the title, and a second reign would put him in rare company among TNT Champions. Given how dominant that first run was, it would make sense for AEW to eventually run it back.

Kyle Fletcher is another logical option. The 27-year-old is a former International Champion and two-time TNT Champion in his own right, making him one of the most decorated mid-card stars of the past two years. Right now he’s occupied chasing the World Tag Team Titles alongside Knight, but a pivot back to singles competition wouldn’t be a surprise — and beating Allin would put Fletcher level with him at three TNT reigns apiece.

Then there’s Nick Wayne, whose history with Allin adds real storytelling weight to any future program. Wayne came up through AEW thanks to his connection to Allin — the two share ties through the Buddy Wayne Academy — before turning his back on his mentor’s friend to align with Christian Cage back in 2023. A Wayne win over Allin would double as a redemption arc and give “The Prodigy” his first singles title in the company, a milestone that feels overdue for someone AEW has clearly been grooming for a bigger role.

The wildcard is Ilja Dragunov. “The Mad Dragon” left WWE in early August after contract talks broke down, and recent reports point toward him landing in AEW. If that move materializes, Allin’s open challenge format for the TNT Title would be a natural way to introduce Dragunov to the roster — his hard-hitting style lines up well with the kind of championship AEW has built around toughness and unpredictability.

None of this is locked in, but that’s what makes the TNT picture interesting right now. Allin has turned the title into something of a war of attrition, and AEW has options in every direction — a rematch with betrayal potential in Knight, a symmetry-driven showdown with Fletcher, a legacy story with Wayne, or a splashy debut angle if Dragunov’s move to the company is confirmed. Whichever direction AEW goes, the TNT Championship looks set to stay one of the promotion’s most active titles heading into the fall.
