Seth Rollins Says He’s Never Truly Headlined WrestleMania

Seth Rollins has ended WrestleMania three times, but he doesn’t consider any of those moments a true headlining performance — and he’s not shy about saying so.

Speaking on season three of WWE Unreal, the Netflix series that pulls back the curtain on WWE creative, Rollins reflected on the one box he still hasn’t checked in his career. He famously cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to close out WrestleMania 31, and he later ended night one of both WrestleMania 40 and WrestleMania 41. In his mind, none of that counts as truly main-eventing the show.

“In my opinion, I haven’t properly main evented WrestleMania. A couple of night ones and the cash-in, yada yada,” Rollins said. “But for me, being on the marquee and headlining night two, having that is something I’ve always wanted.”

Rollins believes WrestleMania 42 was shaping up to finally be his moment — until injury intervened. “I do feel like it was probably the year for it. To know that it’s probably out the window, it’s really difficult to wrap my head around,” he said.

The injury in question came at Crown Jewel in October 2025, when Rollins hurt his shoulder while landing the coast-to-coast headbutt that finished off his match with Cody Rhodes. The damage was serious enough that he was forced to give up the World Heavyweight Championship, and he didn’t return to the ring until Elimination Chamber. In his absence, night two of WrestleMania 42 was headlined by Roman Reigns defeating CM Punk for that same title, while Rollins wrestled Gunther earlier on the card instead.

Now fully healed, Rollins has clawed his way back into the title picture. He’s set to challenge Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam — a belt he technically never lost in the ring, having been stripped of it due to injury. A win wouldn’t erase the WrestleMania disappointment, but it would go a long way toward building the kind of momentum Rollins clearly still wants: a shot at finally closing out the biggest show of the year on his own terms.
