Roman Reigns Set To Defend World Title Against LA Knight

Roman Reigns will put his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line against LA Knight on October 10, marking the third time the two men have squared off in a world title match. The bout continues one of the more enduring rivalries of Reigns’ current run atop WWE’s title picture.

Knight first challenged Reigns for the then-Undisputed Universal Championship at Crown Jewel 2023, and returned to the title picture two months later at the Royal Rumble in a fatal four-way that also included AJ Styles and Randy Orton. Neither bout resulted in a title change, but Knight has remained one of WWE’s most consistently popular acts in the years since, and the promotion has leaned into chatter about whether he’s finally due for a genuine run with a world championship.

That backdrop makes the October 10 rematch more than a routine title defense. Reigns, still operating as the Tribal Chief and OTC of WWE’s programming, has spent the past several months fending off a rotating cast of challengers, and how WWE books this particular match — whether it’s treated as a formality or as a real threat to Reigns’ reign — will say a lot about where the company sees Knight heading into 2027.

Beyond Knight, Reigns’ championship reign has left him with no shortage of other logical dance partners. Solo Sikoa remains an obvious one after the two clashed physically on the August 17 episode of Raw, when Reigns called on Sikoa to fall back in line with the Bloodline only to be attacked by his cousin, with LA Knight lending a hand in fending off the rest of the group. Reigns and Sikoa have a lengthy history dating back to Sikoa’s takeover of the Bloodline during Reigns’ absence after WrestleMania 40, a rivalry that was seemingly settled when Reigns beat Sikoa in a Tribal Combat match in January 2025 — though the recent Raw skirmish suggests that story isn’t entirely closed.

CM Punk is another name that looms over the current title picture. Reigns beat Punk in the main event of WrestleMania 42 to capture the World Heavyweight Championship, a match widely praised by fans and critics alike, in part because of Reigns’ pointed insistence beforehand that Punk was too old to carry a world title. Punk has since won and lost the Undisputed WWE Championship, taking it from Sami Zayn in July before dropping SmackDown’s top prize, leaving him without a title and, potentially, with unfinished business against Reigns.

Then there’s Cody Rhodes, whose story with Reigns is arguably the most decorated of the bunch. Reigns beat Rhodes in the WrestleMania 39 main event before Rhodes finally toppled him a year later at WrestleMania 40, ending Reigns’ record-setting 1,316-day reign as Undisputed Universal Champion. The two have since fought on the same side, teaming up at Bad Blood 2024 and standing together in the Survivor Series WarGames match, but neither man has shied away from suggesting a rubber match to settle their WrestleMania trilogy once and for all.

None of those three programs are confirmed at this stage, but the pieces are all in place for WWE to revisit any of them. With Knight now locked in for October 10, the more interesting question becomes who Reigns faces next if he walks out of that match still holding the title.
