Rey Fenix vs. El Hijo del Vikingo AAA World Cruiserweight Title Match Highlights WWE SmackDown Tapings

The ongoing partnership between WWE and Lucha Libre AAA produced another standout moment at this week’s SmackDown tapings, where Rey Fenix and El Hijo del Vikingo squared off for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship — and by all accounts, the two luchadors delivered something special.

SmackDown was taped in Atlantic City immediately following Monday Night Raw, and the Fenix vs. Vikingo title match quickly emerged as the highlight of the taping. It’s the kind of matchup that, on paper, writes itself: two of the most athletically gifted performers in lucha libre today, competing for a championship that has served as a bridge between the two promotions since WWE and AAA formalized their working relationship.

The WWE-AAA partnership has gradually raised the profile of both AAA talent and AAA championships on mainstream American television. Seeing the Cruiserweight title defended on SmackDown continues a trend of WWE giving the collaboration real estate on its premier brands rather than treating it as a sideshow attraction.

Fenix has long been regarded as one of the most complete performers in the world, and Vikingo has built a reputation for pushing the limits of what’s physically possible in a wrestling ring. Putting those two together in a title match on a major taped SmackDown is a significant moment for both men and for the partnership itself.

The episode is set to air later this week, so fans who want to go in fresh should proceed with caution — but those who’ve already seen the spoilers know to clear their schedules.
