NXT GM Robert Stone Announces AAA Luchadores Headed to Great American Bash PLE

Robert Stone is making moves ahead of Great American Bash. During the June 23rd episode of WWE NXT on The CW, cameras caught the brand’s General Manager wrapping up a phone call backstage when correspondent Sarah Schreiber approached him for comment. Stone revealed the substance of that call: AAA luchadores will be appearing at the upcoming Great American Bash premium live event.

The announcement marks another chapter in the ongoing working relationship between WWE and Lucha Libre AAA, which has seen talent from the Mexican promotion make appearances on NXT programming over the years. Bringing AAA names into a PLE setting raises the stakes for Great American Bash and signals that NXT’s creative team is leaning into the cross-promotional partnership in a meaningful way heading into one of the brand’s signature events.

Specifics regarding which AAA luchadores will be on hand were not immediately detailed in Stone’s announcement, but the GM’s involvement — and the fact that the reveal came via a phone call he was in the middle of — played into his character’s hands-on, deal-making persona. Stone has been a fixture in an authority role on NXT, and this kind of international booking flex fits squarely within how the character has been presented.

Great American Bash is one of NXT’s most storied named events, and the addition of AAA talent gives the card an international flavor that should turn heads. More details on exactly who’s coming and how they’ll factor into the event are expected to emerge in the weeks ahead.
