Nick Offerman Earns Emmy Nomination for Playing a Former Pro Wrestler in ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’

Nick Offerman is getting awards-season recognition for bringing a wrestler to life on screen. The actor has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Jinx, a retired pro wrestler and the father of the title character in the Peacock series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.”

Offerman finds himself in a competitive field. His fellow nominees in the category include Colman Domingo for “The Four Seasons,” Paul W. Downs for “Hacks,” and Harrison Ford for “Shrinking” — a strong slate that underscores how much attention “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” has attracted since its debut.

The role of Jinx puts a wrestling character front and center in what has been one of the more critically discussed streaming comedies in recent memory. Offerman, best known to mainstream audiences for his long run as Ron Swanson on “Parks and Recreation,” leans into the larger-than-life qualities of a man shaped by a career inside the squared circle. The character’s relationship with Margo gives the show much of its emotional weight, and it’s that dynamic that appears to have resonated with Emmy voters.

For wrestling fans, the nomination is a reminder of how often the sport bleeds into popular culture — and how a well-drawn fictional grappler can earn the same level of prestige recognition as any other dramatic or comedic performance. Whether Offerman ultimately takes home the trophy, the nod alone is a noteworthy moment for a character rooted in pro wrestling’s world.
