Nic Nemeth isn’t going anywhere — and he wants the world to know it.
The reigning TNA World Champion appeared on Busted Open Radio and got candid about one of the most difficult subjects in professional wrestling: knowing when to walk away. At 45 years old, Nemeth acknowledged that retirement is an inevitability every performer must eventually confront, but made clear he has no intention of making it easy.
“My body is hurting, and my health for the next 50 years is much more important than one more year of some dream matches,” Nemeth said. “No matter how much in your head you think that’s the case, you have to deal with all these different things.”
Nemeth used Kenny Omega’s well-documented injury struggles as a reference point, noting that wrestlers are mentally wired to push through pain until the conversation has to shift from chasing memorable bouts to preserving long-term health.
He also reflected on a pivotal moment during his time in WWE that reshaped how he thinks about stepping away. Watching legends well into their 70s still angling for one more title opportunity gave him pause — and, eventually, a mirror to look into.
“You get four people who are legends who you’ve looked up to, and you watch for years, but they’re in their 70s, and they’re lining up to talk to Vince,” Nemeth recalled. “Not to say hi to Vince. They’re looking for a push. For a chance to fight for the title. And you’re like, are you kidding me? What is wrong with these guys?”
But Nemeth admitted that what once seemed baffling to him now makes complete sense.
“Now me, not at 70, at 45, I’m going, oh right, I will not go quietly into that night either, damn it,” he said. “I don’t ever want to stop being awesome at this and stealing the show. I don’t ever, ever want to stop.”
The comments offer a rare and honest look at the psychological grip the business maintains on its performers, even those at the top of the card. For now, Nemeth remains squarely in his prime years as TNA World Champion, and by his own telling, retirement is a fight he’s not ready to lose.
