Maya World Credits Athena’s Mentorship for Owen Hart Cup Opportunity

Maya World is crediting Athena’s coaching and guidance as a key factor in her readiness to step into AEW’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament on short notice.

World, who arrived in AEW as one half of a tag team alongside Hyan, has been steadily carving out a presence in the Women’s Division. Now, with a high-profile solo opportunity in the Owen Hart Cup, she’s pointing directly to Athena’s teaching as the reason she was equipped to seize the moment when her name was called without much lead time.

The connection makes sense given Athena’s standing in AEW. Beyond her dominance as a performer, she has cultivated a reputation for investing in the development of younger talent — and World’s comments suggest that mentorship has had a tangible impact. Being thrown into a prestigious tournament setting with minimal preparation is the kind of pressure that exposes gaps, and World’s ability to step up speaks to the work that’s gone into her training.

For World, the tournament appearance represents a significant step forward. Moving from tag team work with Hyan to competing in one of AEW’s most storied annual tournaments signals that the company sees her as capable of carrying her own spotlight. If she makes a strong impression in the Owen Hart Cup, it could go a long way toward establishing her as a legitimate singles contender in a Women’s Division that continues to expand its roster depth.

It’s a telling moment for both wrestler and mentor — and a reminder that what happens behind the scenes often shapes what fans see when the lights are on.
