Jeremy Borash Believed To Be The Creative Force Behind Los Perros Del Mal’s WWE AAA Revival

A revived Los Perros Del Mal faction made its presence felt on AAA television on June 20, attacking El Grande Americano — and the creative mind reportedly responsible is WWE producer Jeremy Borash.

The new iteration of the group brings together NXT’s Karmen Petrovic, Bronco Nima, and Daga alongside SmackDown’s Angel and Berto. The latter two are nephews of Hector Garza, who was one of the defining figures of the original stable. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter attributes the idea to Borash, noting the angle had been in the pipeline for roughly a year: “I believe the idea came from Jeremy Borash, but it’s been on the list of big angles for a year.”

Meltzer put the faction’s legacy in perspective, describing Los Perros Del Mal as essentially Mexico’s answer to the nWo or Bullet Club about two decades ago, with Perro Aguayo Jr. in the top role and Garza alongside him. Daga is a holdover from that original run, giving the new version a thread of continuity. Petrovic, Meltzer noted, is slated to fill a role modeled after Taya. As for who controls the intellectual property, Meltzer indicated he believes the rights are held by the wrestler Khan del Mal. The faction originated in CMLL before moving to AAA in 2010.

The debut fits into a broader creative overhaul that has taken shape since WWE acquired AAA in April of last year. Borash isn’t working alone — Pete Dunne has also taken on a producer role, and both Triple H and Shawn Michaels are involved at some level. The Undertaker has been helping with creative as well. Dunne was specifically credited as the producer behind the mask-versus-mask match that saw Chad Gable relinquish the El Grande Americano character.

Konnan, who long served as AAA’s all-in-one backstage authority — overseeing everything from match production to agenting — has acknowledged that his responsibilities have been redistributed across the WWE contingent. He’s spoken positively about the incoming talent, calling them top-notch professionals who know the business.

With Los Perros Del Mal now firmly re-established and a loaded backstage team driving creative, AAA’s next chapter under WWE’s umbrella appears to be taking a distinctly ambitious shape.
