Jade Cargill Opens Up On Wig Incident During SmackDown Match: ‘My Wig Was Sewn On — That’s How Hard It Was Pulled’

Jade Cargill is setting the record straight about the moment her wig came off during a match on WWE SmackDown — and she wants people to understand exactly what happened and why.

During a King of the Ring four-way match involving Cargill, Charlotte Flair, Lyra Valkyria, and Sol Ruca, Cargill’s wig was visibly pulled from her head by Flair. Cargill has previously spoken about how losing her wig in the ring was one of her deepest fears, and on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, she addressed the fallout head-on.

“The crazy thing — people wanna sit there and talk about, ‘It’s the glue,’ or whatever. No, my wig was sewn on. I sew my wig. That’s how hard my wig was pulled. That’s how hard. Pieces of my hair came out too,” Cargill said.

She pushed back hard against the online criticism that followed, framing it as ignorance and opportunism rather than legitimate commentary. “People can be very slow and very stupid. We all know it’s clickbait, people just ride on the train, try to trend and try to jump on the hate train,” she said, adding that she has never hidden the fact that she wears a wig. “I say all the time I wear a wig.”

Cargill also revealed how much the moment affected her in-ring performance. “I was starting to roll out. And that’s why Charlotte got one over on me, because I was worried about that wig the entire time,” she admitted. “But if it wasn’t for that, I would have definitely taken that match home.”

She credited herself for pushing through the embarrassing and painful moment. “I persevered and I kept on going,” she said, noting she screamed at Flair in the moment before willing herself to continue.

One silver lining, as Cargill explained it: “Thankfully my bald cap came off as well, because imagine if my bald cap was still on my head. People would have really thought I was bald.”

Cargill also used the moment to speak more broadly about hair culture, pointing out that the vast majority of women in professional wrestling wear wigs or extensions. “Every single woman — (except) maybe like three or four — wears extensions, wears a wig,” she said.

Cargill moves forward with a major opportunity ahead of her. She is set to challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s United States Championship at Night of Champions on Saturday, June 27.
