Greg Hamilton Opens Up on WWE Departure: ‘A Hall of Famer or Creative Can Get You Cut’

Greg Hamilton, one of the most recognizable voices in professional wrestling over the past decade, is speaking candidly about life inside WWE — and what can end it. In a recent interview with Forbes, the former WWE ring announcer reflected on the political realities of working for the world’s largest pro wrestling company, offering a blunt takeaway from his time there: talent relationships and the creative process can be just as decisive in determining job security as performance itself.

Hamilton, who built a reputation as one of the sharpest and most theatrical announcers in the business during his WWE run, made clear that the ecosystem backstage carries real consequences. His comment that ‘a Hall of Famer or creative can get you cut’ speaks to the outsized influence that established veterans and decision-makers can wield over the fates of those working behind the scenes — a sentiment that will resonate with anyone familiar with how WWE’s internal culture has long operated.

Since parting ways with WWE, Hamilton has been charting a new course entirely. He is now exploring opportunities in the Professional Fighters League, bringing his storytelling and presentation skills to the world of mixed martial arts — a lateral move that reflects just how transferable elite announcing ability can be across combat sports.

Hamilton’s willingness to speak openly about the dynamics that shape careers in WWE adds another voice to an ongoing conversation about how the company functions behind the curtain, and what it truly takes to stay on the roster — on either side of the camera.
