Ethan Page on WWE’s Rejection Email, New Theme Music, and Why He Wants No Part of ‘Pop Pro Wrestling’

Ethan Page on WWE’s Rejection Email, New Theme Music, and Why He Wants No Part of ‘Pop Pro Wrestling’

Ethan Page has never been one to shy away from controversy, and in a candid appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, the Raw Superstar made clear he has zero regrets about the backlash surrounding his revamped entrance music — and opened up about a deeply personal low point that nearly ended his WWE dream before it ever started.

Page addressed the decision to replace his beloved “All Ego” theme with a new remix that debuted at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The original track had become a crowd sing-along, but not in the way Page wanted. Fans had taken the “ego” chant and twisted it into something that forced WWE’s broadcast team to cut the audio entirely.

“I come out and everyone was going ‘ego’ right away, and then they turned it into a**hole,” Page explained. “Nobody’s hearing what Booker T is saying because the crowd is doing what they want, because it’s censored.”

Rather than lean into the fan participation, Page pushed to have the chant removed altogether. He described full entrances where the crowd noise drowned out everything, leaving him visually mouthing along with nothing being heard. The new version — the eighth iteration he developed alongside a WWE music producer after going through seven earlier drafts — was his answer to all of it.

“I don’t need people to sing along. I don’t need people to chant. I just want to have a nice, catchy tune that I can walk to the ring to,” he said, adding a broader critique of the current wrestling landscape. “I think everybody’s lame right now. All wrestlers right now are corny and lame, and I don’t want to cater to this pop pro wrestling garbage that’s happening right now.”

When pressed on whether he had specific performers in mind, Page didn’t back down: “And if they think I’m talking about them, I am, and that’s just your insecurity showing, and I love it.”

Perhaps the most striking portion of the interview came when Page recalled a moment during his career that could have derailed everything. While still with TNA and having already informed the company he was leaving, Page received an email from WWE flatly stating they would never sign him. AEW was only a vague possibility at the time, leaving him in a genuinely uncertain position.

“I just told Impact that I’m not staying. AEW was like a possible option, but nothing was concrete. And then I get this email being like, yeah, we’re not hiring you,” Page recalled. “Pretty much like this is the end of the road. It’s not gonna happen. Just kind of let it go.”

Instead of accepting that verdict, Page recorded himself immediately after reading the message — footage he still holds onto today. He joked that it may one day surface in a WWE documentary, adding that watching it back is “pretty rough.”

Page also reflected on the structural challenges of breaking into American wrestling from Canada, describing the visa and work authorization process as “impossible” — a grind that made reaching WWE feel all the more earned when it finally happened. Given where he is now, that rejection email feels like fuel he’s still burning.
