Report: El Hijo del Vikingo Knee Injury Feared to Be Serious

Concern is mounting over the health of El Hijo del Vikingo after backstage sources indicated his knee injury may be more severe than first thought.

Vikingo was set to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper on the June 30 edition of NXT, but the match was pulled after the AAA star hurt his knee during rehearsals ahead of the taping. To cover the absence on television, WWE filmed a backstage segment in which Keanu Carver attacked Vikingo, providing an in-story explanation for his disappearance from the episode.

At the time, WWE was said to be awaiting MRI results before drawing any conclusions about the severity of the damage. Now, Wrestling Observer Radio has offered a more troubling assessment. Dave Meltzer revealed that those with knowledge of the situation are bracing for bad news, stating, “I heard, by the way, this weekend, it could be serious.” Bryan Alvarez echoed the sentiment, adding simply, “Yeah, it doesn’t sound good.”

The timing adds an unfortunate layer to what had been a promising start for Vikingo on the WWE main roster. His appearance on the July 3 SmackDown — where he challenged Rey Fenix for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship in a losing effort — was actually taped on June 29 in Atlantic City, one day before the injury occurred. The match served as an eye-catching introduction to SmackDown audiences for the 29-year-old, who is believed to be under a WWE contract, distinguishing him from other AAA talents working with the company on a more limited basis.

No official timeline or diagnosis has been confirmed yet, and the full extent of the injury remains unclear as the situation continues to develop.
