Samuel Shaw, known to WWE audiences as Dexter Lumis, made his return to the ring on Saturday, July 25, teaming up with former Wyatt Sicks stablemate Joseph Sawyer, better known as Joe Gacy, at an Atomic Legacy Wrestling event.

The pairing marks the first time the two have worked together since their run in the Wyatt Sicks came to an abrupt end. WWE released the entire faction — which also included Lumis, Gacy, and their masked cohorts — back in April, closing the book on one of the more unconventional acts the company had fielded in recent years. Shaw and Sawyer became free agents shortly after their releases were processed.

The Wyatt Sicks were originally built around the legacy of the late Bray Wyatt, debuting as a tribute act that leaned heavily into the eerie, cult-like presentation Wyatt had spent years cultivating. Lumis and Gacy, both established midcard talents in their own right before joining the group, took on new identities under the masks and found themselves tied to a project that struggled to find consistent direction on WWE television following Wyatt’s death. When the release came in April, it effectively scattered a faction that had never quite been given the creative runway to fully capitalize on the mystique of its debut.

For Shaw specifically, this return represents a step back into the character work that made him a cult favorite on the independent scene long before WWE ever came calling. Dexter Lumis was itself a reworking of a persona Shaw had cultivated for years on the indies, and now that he’s out from under WWE’s creative control, it will be worth watching whether he leans back into that darker, more unsettling character or charts a new path entirely.

Reuniting with Sawyer so quickly after their shared exit suggests the two may see value in keeping their on-screen chemistry alive outside of WWE, at least for now. Tag team reunions of this kind are common currency on the independent circuit, where name recognition from a major promotion run can be a considerable draw even without the backing of a scripted storyline. Whether this was a one-off booking or the start of something more sustained remains to be seen.
