Davey Boy Smith Jr. Opens Up About the Wrestling Lesson His Father Left Him With

Davey Boy Smith Jr. has been reflecting on his father’s influence on his career, sharing what he considers the most valuable wrestling lesson he took away from watching The British Bulldog up close.

Smith Jr. is, of course, the son of the late Davey Boy Smith — one of the most beloved performers of wrestling’s golden era and a WWE Hall of Famer whose combination of raw power and crowd connection made him a legitimate international star. Growing up around that environment, Smith Jr. had a front-row seat to his father’s craft before eventually carving out his own path in professional wrestling.

In a recent interview, Smith Jr. spoke about what he absorbed from observing his father work, pointing to a specific lesson that has stayed with him throughout his own career. While many second-generation talents spend years trying to step out of a famous parent’s shadow, Smith Jr. has consistently spoken with pride about the Bulldog’s legacy and what it meant to learn the business with that kind of direct access.

Smith Jr. has competed across various promotions over the years, developing a reputation as a hard-hitting, technically sound performer — qualities that draw an obvious line back to his father’s style. The British Bulldog’s place in wrestling history is firmly cemented, from his legendary Wembley Stadium match against Bret Hart at SummerSlam 1992 to his long runs with both WWF and WCW.

For Smith Jr., carrying that name clearly comes with both responsibility and pride, and his willingness to discuss his father’s teachings speaks to how deeply that influence continues to shape his approach to the sport.
