Cole: Punk & Rhodes To Face Gunther & Zayn At SNME

WWE has its main event for Saturday Night’s Main Event, and it’s a heavyweight tag team clash. Michael Cole announced that CM Punk and Cody Rhodes will team up to face Gunther and Sami Zayn in the show’s headline bout, set for Madison Square Garden on Saturday, July 18.

The pairing brings together four of WWE’s biggest current stars in one match, with plenty of history among them. Punk and Rhodes have each held world championship gold in recent memory, while Gunther has built a reputation as one of the promotion’s most dominant in-ring forces. Zayn, for his part, remains one of the most consistently over performers on the roster, giving this matchup real star power across the board.

Saturday Night’s Main Event has become a marquee attraction on WWE’s calendar since its revival, drawing big crowds and delivering high-profile matchups outside the usual pay-per-view framework. Landing a bout of this magnitude — with two singles stars on each side rather than an established team — suggests WWE is treating the MSG date as a showcase event, leaning on individual star power to headline rather than a traditional tag pairing.

No further details on the build to the match, including how the teams came together or what’s at stake, were revealed at this time. Fans in New York can expect the promotion to continue rolling out segments on WWE programming in the days leading up to the show to set the stage for the encounter.

With Punk, Rhodes, Gunther and Zayn all occupying prominent spots on WWE’s current roster, this main event figures to be one of the more talked-about matches heading into the weekend, and it will be worth watching how the storyline threads tying these four together play out before the bell rings at Madison Square Garden.
