Cody Rhodes Uncertain He’ll Ever ‘Finish the Story’ With The Rock, But Can Envision How It Could Happen

Cody Rhodes isn’t banking on a showdown with The Rock’s ‘Final Boss’ persona ever actually materializing — but he hasn’t ruled it out either.

Ahead of his WWE Championship defense at Night of Champions, Rhodes sat down with Ariel Helwani and was asked about the possibility of closing the loop on the unfinished business between himself and The Rock. Rhodes was candid, admitting he’s genuinely unsure that the moment ever comes. At the same time, he acknowledged he can picture a couple of different scenarios in which it could realistically play out.

The backdrop here matters. Rhodes famously had his WrestleMania moment redirected last year when The Rock inserted himself into the main event picture, ultimately leading to Roman Reigns facing Rhodes at WrestleMania XL rather than the planned rematch from the year prior. Rhodes eventually won the title at that event, completing a long-anticipated redemption arc — but the thread with The Rock was left dangling rather than tied off.

Whether The Rock, who functions as both a Hollywood star and a part-time on-screen character, has the availability or inclination to revisit that unfinished chapter remains an open question. Rhodes appears to share that uncertainty with the rest of the wrestling world.

For now, Rhodes has a title to defend and a present-day focus to maintain. But the prospect of one more collision with The Final Boss clearly hasn’t left his mind entirely — even if he’s not holding his breath waiting for it.
