CM Punk Reveals 20-Pound Vacation Weight Gain Before WWE Title Win

CM Punk’s return to the top of WWE came with a backstory that’s equal parts relatable and remarkable. Appearing on the newest episode of Stephanie McMahon’s podcast, Punk opened up about the vacation he took with wife AJ Lee — and the shape he arrived back in before reclaiming championship gold.

Punk revealed he put on 20 pounds during the trip, disclosing that he stepped onto the island weighing 204 pounds and departed at 224. Despite that dramatic swing, he managed to get himself back into fighting shape in less than a week — just in time for his return to WWE programming.

That return paid off in a major way. On the July 6th edition of Monday Night Raw, Punk ended several months away from WWE television by walking back in and immediately making an impact, defeating Sami Zayn to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. It was a triumphant comeback for a performer whose absences — whether through injury or otherwise — have repeatedly punctuated his second run with the company.

The podcast appearance gives some fun color to what was otherwise a significant moment in WWE’s ongoing title picture. The idea that one of the company’s biggest stars was polishing off vacation meals just days before stepping back into a championship match adds a very human dimension to a figure who has always cultivated an outsider mystique. Whatever he did to shed the island weight in time, it clearly worked — Punk walked out of Raw as champion.
